What is the 10% Pledge ?

The 🔸10% Pledge is a public commitment, initiated by our partners ‘Giving What We Can’, to give a percentage of your income or wealth to organisations that can most effectively help others.

This is how it works:

  • You pledge to donate 10% of your income to charities of your choice.

  • You can report and track your giving on your personal pledge dashboard on the Giving What We Can website.

  • ‘Giving What We Can’ shows you your giving history, connects you with other pledgers, and reports on the impact of a global community of people committed to creating a better world.

Why take the 10% Pledge?

1.

If you earn the average net salary in France, €2,500, you’re in the top 3.4% of the world’s richest people.

Ten percent sounds like a lot until you realise that, in most cases, you will still be in highest income decile, even after making a donation!

2.

You can have 100 times more impact by donating to the most effective charities (seriously, 100x!).

Ten percent sounds like a lot, until you realize how much that money can help others if it’s in the right hands.

3.

If everyone made a pledge, we could eliminate global poverty.

Ten percent sounds like a lot until you realize that you’re part of a community and that together we can do amazing things.

If the top 1% all donate 10% of their income, we could generate €3.4 Trillion, which could be used to eradicate most of the world’s problems for 2 years.
Pie chart showing the distribution of 3.4 trillion euros over two years: 209 billion to eradicate tuberculosis, AIDS and malaria. 211 billion to put an end to factory farming. 167 billion to radically improve reproductive health. 325 billion to eradicate hunger and malnutrition, 1.27 billion to ensure clean water and hygiene for everyone, 1.4 billion for safer artificial intelligence, 6 billion for nuclear safety, 630 billion for clean energy, 283 billion for pandemic prevention, 246 billion to end extreme poverty, 50 billion to eradicate neglected tropical diseases.
